I Have a Tale to Tell: 'Disturbia'

Lemme set the scene: Summer 2008, off the heels of Rihanna's 'Please Don't Stop the Music,' 'Shut Up and Drive' ... out comes 'Disturbia.' To say the least, it wasn't an instant classic...

Here Lounge, West Hollywood....I was out with some friends. The venue isn't known for dancing necessarily, but has an area that can def turn into a dancefloor if needed.

The Perry Twins were spinning that nite - they are so much fun to watch spin, cuz they so get into the music...and in a place like Here (the old Firehouse for us older dudes), guys were basically just standing around in their fitted Abercromibie Ts (yawn).

I finally went over to the Twins and handed them a cocktail napkin that said 'Play: New RIHANNA Disturbia.' Within minutes, it was playing...

Crickets, crickets....no one danced. I danced. Not even my friends came out with me! Wusses.

About 20 minutes later, floor was packed, when some Britney song came on or what have you...

Moral of the story, people take time to get used to new material. Rihanna's 'Disturbia' ended up becoming a major hit, going to #1 on both Billboard's Hot 100 and dance charts - open your minds y'all...a public service announcement from MUZOPHILE LLC-Adjacent.
