Why November 23 Matters

Gearing up for the holidays, labels are scrambling to get releases set for the biggest shopping season of the year. And given the recession and floundering music industry sales, I don't blame them.

It's a big day in the music world - Mon. Nov. 23.

Albums are typically released on Tuesdays, but not during this last full week in November. Why? Well, it's the week that includes the biggest U.S. shopping day of the year - the day after Thanksgiving. This year, that date falls on Friday., Nov. 27...and the labels wanna get a head start - even one day can make the difference.

The majors wanna make sure they've got their product ready for all those hungry consumers who need to stuff stockings and react on impulse buys.

So, for that given week, it's not so much about the race to no. 1 - it's more about selling way more copies of the album than they typically would.

With that said, here's what you can expect to see on shelves that week, all due out. Nov. 23:

Shakira's 'She Wolf,' Lady GaGa's 'Fame Monster,' Rihanna's 'Rated R,' Adam Lambert's 'For Your Entertainment,' 'Britney Spears' 'The Singles Collection' and Beyonce's 'I Am...Sasha Fierce (Deluxe Edition)'.

Whoever ends up on top gets bragging rights, but ultimately, it's all about the $$$, honey!

I'd love to see Gaga take the top spot, since 'The Fame' never made it to no. 1, plus she has busted her ass the last two years! Not to mention, the 'Fame' re-release includes 8 new tracks - that's virtually an entire new album! But typically, hits compilations and re-releases don't take the top spot, especially in such a competitive week.

That leaves Shakira, Rihanna, Adam Lambert: Buzz around Shakira'a album isn't hot, and her label has been pushing back its release date, etc. - not usually a good sign. Although her new track 'Give It Up to Me,' featuring Timbaland and Lil' Wayne is a very welcomed addition to the 'Wolf.' Adam Lambert...it'd be awesome to see him do well; I cannot wait for his album and think he's gonna have something really fresh, but with the exception of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, 'Idol' alum typically don't fare well in their debut sesh.

Muzo predicts Rihanna's 'Rated R' is gonna end up in the penthouse. It's the embattled divette's first album of new content since 2006's 'Good Girl Gone Bad,' and while 'R' debut track 'Russian Roulette' is getting a mixed response from fans and critics, my money is that the 'Umbrealla' hitmaker is gonna keep sangin' all the way to the bank.
