Q&A: DJ BILL BENNETT: Everything from SUZANNE PALMER & PEPPER MASHAY to Monster Drinks & Masturbation



(I can see Pepper Mashay now, reading this article going, 'Now how the hell did my good, clean name end up in a headline with 'masturbation and monster drinks??' lol...we love you Pepper!!)

Been a big fan of DJ Bill Bennett's for quite sometime, so imagine when my boy Mikey said he interviewed him for the blog!

Bill is a top-notch DJ/remixer.producer: 'Instinct Magazine' voted him North America's #1 Leather/Jock DJ' (a kudo he still questions)...plus he's worked with some of the hottest in the Biz...Pepper Mashay (click here for the Muzo interview with Ms. Mashay), Suzanne Palmer, Inaya Day. And lets just say, hes not a fan of one of those ladies anymore.

And now, Bill was kind enough to take the time to talk up everything from his current projects to what he likes in a man, in da sack and much more.

M: When did you know that spinning records would be such a huge part of your life?

BB: I have always had an innate love for dance music. I was collecting 12" vinyl records at 14-years old. At one point, I had over 3000 12" vinyl records in my house.

It wasn’t until I was in nursing school though, that I realized I wanted to do more with my passion - something where I could be creative. 1998 was when I really started thinking about a career as a DJ , remixer, producer.

M: You've worked with some of the biggest divas in the dance music business: Inaya Day, Pepper Mashay, Suzanne Palmer. What is one of your most favorite experiences from working with these talented ladies?

BB: All of them were amazing except Inaya Day. I would rather stick a fork in my eye then work with her again.

M: What makes working with the ladies such an amazing experience?

BB: I used to play their tracks in the early '90s and place them on pedestals.  Then ten years later, I am in the studio with them! It is surreal sometimes.

M: Who would you say are your musical inspirations?

BB: Madonna! Also, old school rock bands like Boston, ELO, Journey, Styx, Foreigner and Kansas.

M: Your FANTASTIC website tells us that your just completed a remix of Madonna's legendary "EROTICA". What was the inspiration behind remixing such a monumental track?

BB: I remixed Frozen in 2005 and it received rave reviews, so I decided to tackle another of my favorite Madge tracks.

M: In July of 2009, 'Instinct Magazine' named you 'North America's #1 Leather Jock DJ.' How did that come about?

BB: I have no idea. I think because I played IML for 7 years in a row, people labeled me a 'leather DJ.'  I don’t think it fits. When I think of a leather DJ, I think of dark, chunky beats with little vocals. I play all anthems...but I will accept the tiara.

M: Ok, a couple personal ones...Favorite part of your body?

BB: My legs. I have really thick football player legs and calves.

M: Favorite personal vice?

BB: Monster energy drinks and masturbation.

Muzo Note: That really did make me lol. The two together sound like a fun nite! lol Kids, don't try that at home

M: Least-favorite personal vice?

BB: Party drugs.

M: Who is an artist that you would love to work with?

BB: Madonna, Madonna... oh yeah, Madonna.

M: What kind of guys do you go for?

BB: Guys with darker hair, love uncut, prefer tops.

M: What is the ideal date for you?

BB: I don't like the term 'dating,' the word is an automatic stressor. Just hanging out is cool, then if there is chemistry we can take it from there.

M: To the new boys & girls that just started spinning, what advice do you have?

BB: Go to school and get a college degree, cause there is no security in DJing.

M: What's next for Bill Bennett?

BB: I’m writing a track for Martha Wash (pending her approval). I also have a live album coming out and a remix album, which will include radio edit remixes of all the past hits plus three new tracks.
