M: When did you know that spinning records would be such a huge part of your life?

C: I moved here to New York from Texas about 8 years ago & my frat brothers asked me about DJ'ing at my going away party. I then started learning all the equipment; laptops, Mac, software, etc. A friend mentioned that Ellen DeGeneres was looking for a DJ for her talk show, so I put together a video. Actually, I made a copy for everyone who appeared in my video, and they loved it! Our unofficial "after party" was at Vlada that night, and coincidentally, I was scheduled to spin there the next night! After that CD and that night, the stars were aligned: I started making a name for myself @ some of the smaller spots in NYC. I then started my podcast, and continued spinning, and that culminated in the Pier Dance @ NYC Gay Pride this year. I certainly have had a meteoric rise!

M: We all know we can see you spinning all over NYC! Where are some of your favorite places to spin & why?

C: I have done a ton of Gay Prides this year! Phoenix, Minneapolis, L.A., NYC, and possibly Dallas. I am from that area, and I go home annually for Pride, so spinning @ it would be amazing. Locally, I am experimenting with Mr. Black, seeing how spinning there goes. I love Garden of Ono, and lots of smaller parties are popping up all over! Be sure to check my Website & Facebook for my full schedule (shameless plugging!)

M: On Saturday July 18th, 2009, we are going to find you premiering your skills at the turntable in Asbury Park N.J. @ Sand Blast! What have you heard about the gay scene in AP?

C: I actually have friends in NYC & spun @ Road Trip two years ago. I have gotten to watch Road Trip grow into the huge event it has become. I have some close friends in Asbury Park also, so I am definitely looking forward to coming down! And this year I am bringing the "Tea Bus" filled with NYC boys, so Manhattan will definitely be represented that day!

M: What artists or records do you love spinning the most?

C: DEFINITELY Freemasons! Anything they do definitely fits into my set perfectly. I also love Digital Dog & Jody Den Broeder. And of course, I Love GaGa & Madonna; I am an "electro-pop" DJ, so their stuff fits my sets perfectly!

M: You recently completed your first Gay Days CD, right?

C: I actually did a CD called POP-U-LAR for that label. I actually had my friends go on a bit of a "scavenger hunt" when it came out. Whenever they saw the CD in a store - after they bought it of course - they had to take a picture of it and send it to me to show me it was there. I still am getting pics from all over, I actually just got one from Provincetown. LOL.

M: Are you a single boy?

C: Yes, single here, very busy!

M: Favorite personal vice?

C: Music bloggers! // *Sidenote: Thumbs up from Muzo * // You can log on and they can tell you their opinion about what is the "hot" record right now, and get so many opinions. I also am all about Facebook; or as I like to call it, "Facecrack." LOL. I have connected with so many people on there!

M: Least favorite personal vice?

M: Who is an artist that you would love to work with?

C: I have an idea for Jennifer Hudson..with that voice, there are two remakes I could see her doing. I won't disclose them now, as you never know I also would love to work with an artist by the name of Janelle Mona'e from Atlanta. She is a protege' of OutKast and has an amazing voice. I call her the new Grace Jones. She did a version of the Charlie Chaplin song "Smile" that Michael Jackson loved. All over YouTube. Amazing!

M: Advice to new guys who want to become DJs?

C: Work towards getting your own sounds. People will get to know and remember that that is your signature sound. Let your playlist be an extension of who you are. I, for one, play a dance version of The Golden Girls theme, "Thank You for Being a Friend." No matter what time people walk in, they know it's Corey spinning!

M: What's next for Corey Craig?

C: Lots of traveling! I am booked for Montreal, and of course the Ascension on Fire Island. And maybe even London! Lots of West Coast stuff also. In 2010, I plan to get into the remixing portion of my work, so I am definitely looking forward to that also.

M: Corey, it's been a pleasure talking to you. Can't wait to see you on July 18th in Asbury Park for Sand Blast!

C: Thanks so much! See you all then!
