'RuPaul's Drag Race' Winner BEBE ZAHARA BENET Talks Upcoming Album 'Beautiful,' Her ABSOLUT Tour, What She Likes in a Man, more
You know her as the glamazon from Cameroon who won 'RuPaul's Drag Race,' but what has Bebe Zahara Benet been up to since grabbing her tiara and running with it? The answer is: A lot.
She hails from Africa, but now the drag diva is taking over the States, headlining RuPaul's Drag Race ABSOLUT Fruit Tour. Those of you in Jersey can catch her Friday night at Club Paradise, June 5, along with DJ Mark Picchiotti.
The divalicious hottie was kind enough to take some time to talk with us about her latest events, her forthcoming album 'Beautiful,' what she likes in a man, on a date and much more. A big thanks to Mikey for making this happen! xoxo

BZB: Well, I actually had a good experience doing drag my first time, because I was lucky to have been working as a high fashion model, so the transition was not that difficult. Also remember I started my own practice when I was a child in the privacy of my own room lol

M: I am sure 'Ru Paul's Drag Race' was an amazing experience. (We have interviewed both RuPaul & Nina Flowers). When you first met all of the girls, who did you think your biggest competition was?
BZB: Honestly, I thought everyone was my competition; you never know who is hiding whatever under their sleeves, so I was always alert and never took anything for granted.

BZB: So far I loved all the places I have been, but I can not honestly call out a favourite one yet, because we spent just a day in those places and head out for the next, you have to be in a place for a couple of days and really get around, which I plan to go back to these places as time permits.

M: How many of the girls do you keep in touch with?
BZB: All of the girls - but more with Nina...everyone is so busy, so we text message when we can.

M: I'll be honest: many of us used "CAMEROOOOOOON" at one point or another while the show was on. Do you still here it when you are out and about?
BZB: lol It is amazing you say that, because I don't think people even still know me as Bebe; they call me 'Camerooooon' or 'Face face face' all the time - airports, shows, just everywhere, and you know I thought I will be over it but not really because people tend to find what connects you with them, and if this is the connection they find, I can only be grateful as an artist.

BZB: Oh my goodness...I have a lot of them, and if I start to list, I may fill up a page lol

BZB: 'Take control.' Is that right to say? lol

M: Okay, Bebe: Single Or taken?
BZB: What do you think?

M: I am sure that with all of the fabulous queens on 'Drag Race,' you have to have some inside scoop? C'mon girl, dish!
BZB: I honestly have nothing to dish. You saw the girls just as they are, and it is up to you to make your opinions. As far as I am concerned, I did. I am just straight-forward.

BZB: 'Not try to hard to impress me but be themselves.'

M: When can we expect the first single from your forthcoming album 'Beautiful Day, Prelude to the Dance'?
BZB: I am still working on that but will be having a couple of singles out before the album to stir up the heat. lol

BZB: 'Beautiful Day' just celebrates life, empowers and inspires each individual, taking you through the sensation of different cultures.

M: What music/artists inspire you most when making music?
BZB: I draw inspiration from so many artists from here in the States, as well as internationally, then again there are so many and that is a long list.

M: What can we expect to see next from Bebe Zahara Benet?
BZB: Well, my singles will be coming out soon, and I plan to do my own tour of the States and also internationally, too, so everyone can look forward to that; it will be amazing. Also, I will use the opportunity to shoot two birds with a stone, so I want to also launch my own charity, which will support my cause to raising money for kids with HIV here in the States and in Cameroon.
