Q&A: Get to know DJ/Producer OREN NIZRI

International DJ/Producer Oren Nizri can almost be described as omnipresence, sharing his vivacious beats with the most successful venues in Florida and around the country.
Developed in Israel and polished in Europe, the DJ phenomenon moved to South Florida in early 2003 when he realized that his signature style of music -- a blend of soulful, deep and European funky house that progresses into big room and high energy tracks with sexy and uplifting vocals -- was perfectly suited for the American club scene.
What's more? The Israeli spinmaster is gearing up for a little travel and heads to Los Angeles, where he will be spinning Friday night at Eleven in West Hollywood for Jeffrey Sanker's FRESH. In the meantime, check out Oren's beatz playing on his MySpace page.
Now, Oren was kind enough to take the time to answer some of Muzo's questions:
*****
Muzo: How did you first get into DJing and remixing?
Oren: It all started in 1998. I worked as a radio DJ in Tel Aviv, Israel, in the city's hottest radio station of that time, "The Voice of Tel Aviv." I hosted my own bi-weekly program called "In My House" that was dedicated to house music. My show was a big success, and it opened the doors for me to spin in some of the most renowned nightclubs and music festivals in Israel and Europe. I have amazing memories of my radio show. It was a blast and a great start of my professional career.

Oren: Names such as the Freemasons, Moto & Blanco, Soul Avengerz and Chris Cox are a real inspiration to me. As recording artists, I love Amanda Wilson and Katherine Ellis.

Muzo: And you are coming from Miami to Los Angeles this week! What can we expect?
Oren: Well, this will be my Los Angeles debut, and I am excited about it. I will be spinning on Friday, January 9, at Jeffrey Sanker's FRESH party, at the sophisticated Eleven Restaurant and Nightclub in West Hollywood. After living in Miami for 5 years, the Latin flavor can also be felt in my sets, and this is what I will be bringing to L.A. A fresh sound at the FRESH party; I am looking forward to it!

Muzo: I lived in Florida for about 5 years (way back then...), and Florida has always had a very unique sound. How would you say the club scene/sound has evolved in Miami?
Oren: The club scene has changed in Florida like it has all over the USA. The venues are smaller, more intimate and sexier, and the crowds seem to enjoy a variety of music that goes from house music of different types to open formats. I think that the partygoers today love to be motivated with the production value of a party, in which great music plays an important role, but they also want a beautiful venue, over-the-top entertainment, original decor and pay a lot of attention to details.
In terms of the music, vocal house has had a big come back in the last two years in Florida. People want to be uplifted with happy tunes. In general, Miami is a great place to live and to work on developing a DJ career. Miami is my backyard and is one of my favorite places to play, because it allows me to be funky, experimental, to develop my own sound and to be greatly appreciated for it.

Muzo: What advice would you give to those just starting out who want to DJ?
Oren: The best advice that I can give to people who have DJ aspirations is to make sure that you are getting into this industry for the right reasons. This is a very tough business that has a lot of ups and downs, especially as you try to develop a career and a reputation. A lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifices are part of this game, so get ready for them! If you have the talent and the passion, do not let anything discourage you. Be humble, persistent and thankful for all you will achieve and, of course, have a great time while doing it!

Muzo: What was your favorite experience spinning at an event?
Oren: This is a difficult one...there are many parties that I have played that have given me a lot of satisfaction and that make me smile when I think about them. What I can say is, it definitely gives me a great feeling to be able to make people smile and be happy on the dance floor, and to entertain them. It's hard to describe, but it's really amazing what I feel when I see that people are getting crazy for my music in a party, to help them forget their problems and worries, to let loose and to have such a fantastic time.

Muzo: What's next for Oren?
Oren: During 2009, my manager George Coronado of Give Me A Beat Productions and I are working hard in bringing my music to different cities around the country and internationally as well, and things are getting lined up very nicely. Also, I will be focusing in the music production side of my career, which is fundamental to continue earning a national and international reputation as a DJ and music producer as well. 2008 was a fantastic year for us, and 2009 is looking even better! We feel very blessed.
Thank you for spending this time with me Muzo, and keep up with the great work!
