Q&A: She Holds the World Record for Most Consecutive #1 Club Hits: Get to Know Dance Diva KRISTINE W.

Dance diva Kristine W holds the world record for the most consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard dance charts. With 11 No. 1s, she surpasses previous record holders Madonna and Janet Jackson. Whether you realize it or not, you have been dancing to Kristine's hits for almost 15 years now. And now she's back with, in my opinion, what may be her best club track to date.

On her new track 'Never,' released last week, Kristine emerges a seasoned recording artist at the top of her game. And I use the word 'seasoned' lightly - being that she and I are roughly the same age, so work with me. But what you will hear on this track is a professional who has been doin' this a long time - success has never evaded her, but there is truly something special about 'Never.'

Aside from it currently being the #1 breakout single on the Billboard charts, it is Muzo's favorite song. 'Never' is self-empowerment, introspection, positive vibes and uplifting vocals all set to a Disco-inspired groove with Kristine at the helm. It reminds me of the type of club music that got me addicted in the first place.

The former Miss America contender has also just released the holiday EP 'Hey Mr. Christmas.' Plus, she's finishing up her next full-length album 'Power of Music,' due out in April. Plus, she's a devout animal rights activist. I love her even more.

Kristine was gracious enough to take the time to answer some of Muzo's questions from everything about her recent projects to how bad she really wanted to snag that crown of the chick who stole her Miss America title and then some - and press play!

Muzo: Congratulations on your new track 'Never,' released just last week. If I can gush a little bit - I live and breathe club music, and this is my absolute favorite song right now. In Muzo's humble opinion, this track has No. 1 written all over it - it is a classic dance anthem with the vibe and energy that makes you want get up on the floor. 'Never' is what club music is all about. What inspired you to write this track?

Kristine: Hi Muzo: Yes, 'Never' is the #1 breakout single now on the Billboard Club charts, and I am so excited. I wrote this track about how you can love someone or have a personal or business relationship that becomes toxic and slowly steals your joy if you're not careful. Having joy and finding joy in your life is so important. It's what gets us up in the morning to hit the day running.

Kristine W 'Hey Mr. Christmas'
Muzo: On top of that, you have a new holiday EP out, too: 'Hey Mr. Christmas,' available now at Borders, your official site and iTunes. What made you decide to put out a holiday collection?

Kristine: "Hey Mr. Christmas" is an exclusive release I did with BORDERS. They heard it and wanted to have happy upbeat Christmas music available to all of their customers who may want to dance the holidays away. It is a tough time of year for many, and this is a super happy little EP. It is also affordable because it is an EP and not a full album. We joke that it's Prozac on plastic LOL!

Muzo: Make sure to click here and preview/purchase 'Hey Mr. Christmas.' AND, get your copy autographed - all for less than $10.

*****

Muzo: You put your forthcoming album 'Power of Music' on hold to do the 'Christmas' EP. When do plan to finish up 'Power' and is there a tentative release date for it? What can your fans expect from the upcoming album?

Kristine: We are finishing "The Power Of Music" album now. We have just recorded guitar sessions with the legendary guitarist George Lynch and have a very famous rapper recording next week with us that will suprise many people. We hope to have it out April.

*****

Kristine W.: Muzo wants to dance with her.
Muzo: This may be a tough one, but out of all your songs, is there one in particular that holds a special place for you?

Kristine: "One More Try" has a special place in my heart, because that was a pivotal point in my life. We all have that visit home when we realize that - for better or worse - everyone and everything has changed. Your friends from school don't live there anymore, the neighbours and the community is different and you wish you could go back. Change is so hard for myself and others to deal with.

*****

Muzo: A suggestion: In the (almost) 15 years you have been turning out the beatz, you have scored enough number ones to easily fill a full album. How about a Kristine W. No. 1s collection? (Offer it in two forms - the regular edition has the club edits; the deluxe edition features the full-length remixes - add in a brand new track or two and voila!) Across the genres, very few artists are able to do that! Whadya say?

Kristine: "Feel What You Want" came out in 1995 in London, and ever since then it has been a whirlwind. I have 11 #1 hits now and many records that were never worked to the charts but are known and have been played all over the world. A Greatest Hits collection is definitely coming. I just have 2 albums of new music ahead of that project at the moment.

*****

Muzo: When you hang out with your friends, what's a fun night out?

Kristine: When I hang with my peeps, we go to dinner, dancing, drink champagne - and tell lots of lies!

The Perry Twins
Muzo: And you've collaborated quite a bit with my boys the Perry Twins. You guys have done multiple appearances together, they just did a smokin' remix of 'Never,' and they tell me you got down with them in the DJ booth at Here in West Hollywood a few weeks back. In my opinion, they can do no wrong - but there's gotta be something...a deviant dark side? Muzo wants gossip!! lol

Kristine: The Perry Twins and I have been friends for a long time. I have known they were super talented for a long time. "NEVER" was the right song at the right time for them to show their skills as producers. They are poised to make big noise in Dance Music. They have danced on many shows with me, and we have always been cheerleaders for each other. They are my brothers by choice. I wish I could say they are scandalous, because it makes for good press, but they are so grounded and nice it catches people off guard.

Muzo: People may or may not know you were a former Miss Washington who went on to compete in the Miss America competition. Do you miss your pageant days? And tell it like it is - when that other chick won Miss America, didn't you secretly wanna pull that crown off her head and beat her down?

Kristine: Yes, I wanted to pull the crown off of her head. I won talent and swimsuit, so when I did not win I was pissed, but my life would have been different, and I would probably have pursued broadcasting like my stepfather wanted. I was free to go to college and explore other avenues, which led me to Vegas, my bachelors degree, my own show in Vegas and then hit Dance records. I had just turned 18, then I was on the runway at the Miss America Pageant. That was a lot of pressure for a farm girl to handle. I have no regrets.

*****

Muzo: Who's your celebrity crush?

Kristine: Jake Gyllenhaal.

*****

Kristine W
Muzo: In your iPod, what would be your five most-played tracks?

Kristine: Well, I am checking mixes and relistening to tracks from the 'Power of Music' album, 'Everyday's a Holiday' by Kristine W, 'Boogie Down' by Al Jareau, 'Be Alright' by Kristine W (Hex Hector's mix), Dolly Parton's version of 'Hard Candy Christmas,' new Quentin Harris/Jason Walker single I have not heard yet but am downloading now and a new remix of 'Never' I have not heard yet by UK remixer Mark Simmons.

*****

Muzo: Your favorite personal vice?

Kristine: Champagne.

*****

Muzo: Least-favorite personal vice?

Kristine: Dark chocolate. (It is hard to stop eating it once you start.) *****

Muzo: What's next for Kristine?

A Big New Year's show in Atlanta and lots of new music in 2009. Happy new year, everyone! I love you!!
