A Muzo Album Review: BRITNEY SPEARS - 'Circus'

Britney Spears' 'Circus' comes out Dec. 2 - but get the scoop now. A great listen the whole way through, overall a fun, electro-infused pop album - Britney breaks out and tries some new stuff this go-round.

Get your first listen now: The album preview is available. You'll hear some different vocal styles than in the past - an edgier Britney emerges on 'Circus.' With only a couple snoozer stopz on the joy ride, Muzo definitely recommends:

1. Womanizer

Boy don't try to front, I-I know just-just what you are-ah-ah... In Muzo's opinion, her best track since 'Toxic,' there's a reason this song went to #1 - ironically, it's only her second career No. 1.

2. Circus

So infectious it's outta control - the second release slated from the album, the title track so rocks. (Can't wait for the mixes!) An uptempo fusion of electro and melodrama, classic Britney.

3. Out from Under

Britney takes the ballad to the next level - in the vain of 'Everytime' or 'In Your Shadow,' simple but powerful. This could easily be the album's third release.

4. Kill the Lights

While most people have already heard this track since it leaked last week, at first I was kinda, 'Eh, I dunno' about this. But after listening to it more and more, it has really grown on me. In the vain of 'Piece of Me,' Britney takes on the paparazzi again. I wouldn't recommend this as a release, since it is basically 'Piece of Me Pt. 2' and we want new stuff. A good groove nonetheless.

5. Shattered Glass

This is by far one of my favorite tracks on the album, upbeat electro-infused synth pop at its finest. The hook, the melody are so on - this song is so addictive.

6. If U Seek Amy

One of the most buzzed-about tracks on the album, this song is definitely a stand-out, very different from the other tracks on the album, if anything, it reminds me a lot of 'Return of Saturn'-era No Doubt. With lyrics like, 'All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to If You Seek Amy.' Get it, get it? One more time for those of you who may not have gotten it right away: 'All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to F.U.C.K. Me.' That Brit is so witty!

7. Unusual You

Hard-driving power ballad, another standout - she sounds awesome on this track.

8. Blur

Nothing uber-special about this ballad - definitely not bad though.

9. Mmm Papi

Recalling '60s-era pop, synth-infused track sounds like it could've been recorded by the B-52s, she breaks out of her shell for this track - upbeat and just fun.

10. Mannequin

After listening to that cheesy recording in the dance rehearsal video released awhile back online, it is so great to finally hear the real song! This is my favorite track on the album, upbeat, fun, similar vibe to 'Womanizer.' Can't wait for the mixes of this!

11. Lace and Leather

Sounds like a Prince-inspired song, this could've easily been released in 1983 - very cool funky, early '80s vibe. Sheena Easton is so pissed right now! For the record, Prince wrote 'Slave 4 U,' and she did pretty good with that track! lol

12. My Baby

Very pretty song, I'm assuming she wrote this about one of her kids, in the same vain as Madonna's 'Little Star.'

13. Radar

This track was originally on 'Blackout.' To be honest, out of all the songs to carry over, I would've opted for 'FreakShow,' but this song gets a bit of a makeover on this album - a little bit harder and edgier than the original, the electro guitars are amped up - vocals a little more aggressive, but overall, seems pretty much the same to me.

Bonus Tracks:

Rock Me In

OMG, I love this. Infectious, punky, electro pop - so No Doubt-ish.

Phonography

I wonder why this is just a bonus track, this could have easily fit right in with the other tracks. Good stuff here.

Amnesia

Fun track, upbeat, really cool beat, but not a major standout - this one as a bonus makes sense.

Trouble

Dancey, upbeat track has an almost-ATB vibe to it - deep synth groove, begging for club mixes.

Quicksand

Strong power ballad - I'm surprised this is just a bonus cut, this could easily be a mainstream crossover hit. Still maintains a dancey vibe but is palatable enough for the Midwestern moms in minivans. Good stuff here.

Rock Boy

Rockier track, electric guitar-infused, not really a stand-out, but still fun and upbeat.

Britney will be appearing on 'Good Morning America' on album release day.
