From Inside the Prop 8 Press Conference at El Coyote, Los Angeles
As everyone pretty much knows by now, Los Angeles restaurant El Coyote has been under fire by the 'Vote NO on Prop 8' camp. Restaurant manager Marjorie Christoffersen was found to have donated to the 'YES on 8' campaign.
The press conference was to give Marjorie a chance to release a statement to media and for protesters to have their voices heard. The blog Shut Up I Know has a firsthand account from inside the press conference:
It was packed. Standing Room only. Every type of person was there. News Cameras outside, NO FILMING ALLOWED INSIDE and my camera was taken at the door.
A floor manager stood in the middle of the back room where the community conference and stated that "El Coyote DOES NOT share the same views as Marjorie." He stated that 89 families were going to be affected by this boycott and one of the community members screamed out "18,000 families already HAVE been affected!"

See...here's my issue with this: Anyone who knows me (or reads this blog, lol) knows I'm a huge supporter of Vote NO on 8'.' But I don't think it's fair to attack the entire establishment of El Coyote because one of its employees donated to a cause. It doesn't mean the entire establishment is gay-hating. It just so happens she is a supporter of YES and happens to work there.
Do I agree with her? Absolutely not. My point is, though, I don't think it's fair to attack the company. We need to channel our energy into more productive methods of having our voices be heard.
