Earth-Shattering News: CLAY AIKEN Comes Out of the Closet

On Wednesday, People Magazine's Website will feature the earth-shattering, coming-out story of Clay Aiken: Former 'Idol' runner-up, QVC hearthrob and champion of semi-deaf, blind and bored Midwestern mothers who really, really miss Barry Manilow.
I am just beside myself - you mean, he's gay? I'm shocked!
I guess he figured since being 'straight' wasn't working for his career, maybe being honest may give it a boost. That, and the fact that everyone in the gay community already knows - in fact, it turns out Clay and I have sort of similar taste in dudes. (I don't usually tell this story, lol) But one guy I went out with once, who will remain nameless (his number ain't in my cell phone anymore anyways), told me about a 'hot' chat session he once had with Aiken on gay.com. I digress.
The main headline on the mag's cover says: "Yes, I'm Gay." The subhead continues: "The Idol star opens up about his emotional decision to come out: I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things."
Aiken has been defensive in the past regarding his sexuality. In an interview with Diane Sawyer in 2006, he called her "really rude" for asking. "I don't understand why it's any of your business."
Aiken, who was the runner-up on the second season of "American Idol," is currently appearing in "Spamalot" on Broadway.
