Been a big fan of
DJ Joe Gauthreaux's for quite sometime now - not just cuz he's a hottie but his mixes rock!
Joe was kind enough to take the time to talk with Muzo about everything from his latest mixes for
Tony Moran, Kristine W, Ranny and
Bimbo Jones, what he likes in a guy (good boys, step to the front of the line), what he likes in the sack, his celeb crush, advice for newbies breaking in the Biz and more. Lets get to it...
*****CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT JOE's LATEST MIXES AT MASTERBEAT*****Muzo: Man! You got so much going on right now - new mixes for Kristine W,
Frenchie Davis & Tony Moran, Ranny &
Nina Flowers.
When you get approached for a project, how do you decide which ones to take on?Joe: Well to be honest, I've been really lucky that those great projects fell into my lap. To be able to remix for Tony Moran, Kristine W, Ranny, Bimbo Jones has been a really amazing start of my career. I guess the only real requirement I have for taking on a track is that I have to feel it.

Muzo: Anything up and coming we haven't heard about yet?Joe: I just did a remix of 'Feel Free' by
Yves Deruyter. It was one of my favorite trance songs from the late '90s era and have been wanting to update it for a while. I also have a new remix for an
Edson Pride track coming out soon. There's a whole bunch of other stuff brewing. I'm just getting started....
*****
Muzo: You've got a ton of appearances coming up, too - Alegria on Valentine's Day is gonna be hot! Joe: Yeah, I'm really excited about Alegria. It's my first time DJing that event - I've been wanting to do it for a while. New Yorkers are so musically sophisticated, so I'm gonna put a lot of prep into that one.
*****
Muzo: What else can your fans look forward to?Joe: Well, I have a couple of big parties coming up. I'm gonna be DJing in Taipei in a few weeks. I'm also gonna be going back to Brazil soon. Here at home I'm really excited about Purple Party in May and Halloween in New Orleans - I'm doing the main event for both. Should be fun!

Muzo: DJs/remixers you admire?Joe: Yeah, I really like Tony Moran. I'm proud to call him a good friend as well. He's been so supportive of me as a DJ and as a new remixer on the block. I'm also really into a lot of the Brazilian remixers right now, like
Alan Natal, Enrry, Mauro Mozart and all those guys. They kind of ride that line between tribal and trance which I find really interesting.

Muzo: I'll be str8 up with you - back 'in the day' when I first got online, you were one of the first guys I noticed on MySpace. Keepin' it real, you're hot as hell - then when I saw you were a DJ and heard your work, I was like, 'Damn! I think I'm in love!' lol. How do you respond to all the dudes who are all over you?Joe: Blush! Thank you. Believe it or not, I get hit on a lot less than people think. Or maybe I do and I'm just too oblivious to realize it. I'm a very shy person, and it takes me a long time to warm up to new people. I'm definitely not the kind of guy who can just walk up to any guy, or have them walk up to me, and just hit it off. I have to feel someone out first.
*****
Muzo: Advice to guys who wanna git with you?Joe: Just be honest and sincere. To me, that's the most attractive quality in a person. Other than that, I guess it just comes down to chemistry.
*****
Muzo: What type of guy do you usually go for?Joe: Honestly, I like good boys - I'm not looking for a bad boy. A guy who is nice and sweet goes a long way with me. I also tend to get along better with younger guys. They're less set in their ways and more adventurous. I like their energy, too - helps keep me young.

*****
Muzo: Single or taken?Joe: I'm very happily single.
*****
Muzo: Is that by choice?Joe: Right now, yeah. I got serious with someone last year and, to be completely honest, I got my heart broken. It turned out to be a very bad experience. But it was my first real relationship, and I learned a lot - about myself, the kind of person I want to be with, and relationships in general. They're a lot of work.
(Muzo Note: Hear, hear!)*****
Muzo: Complete the sentence: 'On a date, the guy should...'Joe: Hmm, I don't know. If we're talking about first dates, I guess avoid the big three no-no topics: religion, politics and previous relationships. Save that stuff for date 3 or 4 - if there is one

*****
Muzo: Complete the sentence: 'In bed, the guy should...'Joe: Like to cuddle. I'm a big cuddler. And being a side sleeper helps, too.
*****
Muzo: Top or bottom?Joe: You'll have to buy me dinner first before I answer this one!
Muzo: In a heartbeat! I mean, um, so yeah, that's cool. When are you free? I've got a few places I can recommend. (Muzo combs hair, channels his long-lost inner good boy lol)*****
Muzo: Ever been starstruck? Who?Joe: I met
Jennifer Hudson when we both performed at the Pier Dance in New York a few years ago. My friend and I were jumping up and down like little girls after it was over and were looking at the pictures.
*****
Muzo: Celebrity crush?Joe: It's kind of random, but there's this kid on 'Secret Life of the American Teenager,'
Daren Kagasoff. He's really sexy.
*****
Muzo: Top 5 most-played tracks on you iPod?Joe: Oh God, I have so many. Usually I'm listening to dance music that I downloaded or produced. As far as pop songs go, I go to these pretty often: "Already Gone" by
Kelly Clarkson, "Open Your Heart" by
Madonna, "Fingers & Thumbs" by
Erasure (
Muzo note: Dude, you rock! That's my all-time favorite Erasure track!), "My Happy Ending" by
Avril Lavigne, and "Lost In Space" by
Lighthouse Family.
*****
Muzo: Advice for newbies who wanna break in the Biz?Joe: Just stick to it if you really want to do it. I started off DJing happy hour at Oz in New Orleans for over a year before they let me DJ at night. It can be a long road and it more than likely won't happen overnight. You have to be willing to work for it.
*****
Muzo: What's next for Joe?Joe: I'm really focusing on remixing right now. Now that I've gotten my feet wet, I want to start to produce original material, maybe start a label somewhere down the road. The possibilities are endless. Other than that, I'm just enjoying the ride.
